Q and A [Your questions, my answers] | Best Public Speaking Course in Bangalore India

You're one mentor away from transforming your life.

As you can assume, I’ve been loaded with questions.

Boat-loaded, actually.

So I took the last 3 questions I received and answered below. If you have a personal question, you can send to Bishal@BishalSarkar.com with the subject line: “Daily Mentor Questions.” I will do my best to answer in an upcoming issue for Daily Mentor soon, maybe in March or April. It’s nearly impossible to answer individually, that’s why I answer via “Daily Mentor.”

Let’s dive in the questions and let’s answer together, shall we?

Question #1: “How can I calm my nerves before a presentation? Currently I take a specific syrup, it worked in the beginning but now it doesn’t even work anymore. What should I do?” – Samar, Noida.

Bishal’s Answer: Calming your nerves is an art & science. If you want to do it before a presentation or performance, you must understand how to first of all slow down your brain. Most people have the active practice of assuming a failure and they can’t stop picturing how stupid they will look once the presentation goes wrong or once the client hates the meeting. The negative visualization increases your nervousness and for that you can’t stay confident. Plus, I don’t know what syrup you’re talking about here, but using something external like this can be extremely harmful and opposite of useful. Be careful.

Question #2:  “How do you prepare for your presentation? Can you tell me your personal practice routine?” – Julie, California

Bishal’s Answer: I do have a ritual but the length & details of it depend on the nature of my presentations. Sometimes I am speaking in front of 2,000 people for 45 minutes. Sometimes I speak in front of 40 people for 2 days. So as you can assume, the preparation varies. But I make sure that my voice has had its practice, I do stretch a lot. I do a certain breathing pattern that gives a lot of oxygen to my body within 60 seconds, and I repeat that exercise during breaks too. Speaking for 2 full days requires a lot of energy and food & water are a vital part of it. More on this at our next event. I hope you’re doing well, Julie. Hope you’re enjoying the California weather.

Question #3:  “I am a good & confident speaker. But when I am speaking, I feel I am not making the level of impact I want to make. I can connect with people well, and generally people are wowed by my knowledge. But that impact is missing. How can I make an impact when influencing a big crowd?” – Anand Sharma, JNU

Bishal’s Answer: Impact? Interesting question. Based on your question I assume that people are being so impressed by your knowledge...that they’re starting to see you as a super-human. The positive part of it is that you’re being perceived as that. The negative part of it is that you’re no more relatable. They feel: “Anand is great. But what he’s talking about won’t apply to me.” See? Impact can never happen when you’re just impressing someone. Remember this- If you want to impress an audience, talk about your success. If you want to impact an audience, talk about your failure. Have a good day Anand. Be what your name suggests: ANAND!

That’s all I have for you today.
